MANHATTAN, Kan. — The A.Q. Miller School of Media and Communication will be donating $3,050 to Collegian
Media Group in support of the 2026 Flint Hills Publications Workshop in a new partnership agreement between the two groups in December. This amount will support staff honorariums, workshop t-shirts and the workshop lunch provided to the attending high school students.
Collegian Media Group will host the Flint Hills Publications Workshop at Kansas State University in Kedzie Hall on July 13 and 14 of this year. The workshop is a tradition dating back to 1961 with high school students across the midwest coming to K-State each summer to learn from top professionals in the world of journalism, photography, social media and multimedia, including instructors from the A.Q. Miller School of Media and Communication.
Daren Lewis, Director of Flint Hills Publications Workshop stated, “The continued support from
the A.Q. Miller School of Media and Communication helps to ensure that CMG, as a non-profit,
can continue to provide these opportunities to high school students interested in journalism and
media and allow us to offer this workshop at Kansas State University. We hope to
see many of the attendees return as future Wildcats.”
Hallie Everett, adviser to the Royal Purple and Manhappenin Magazine said, “Having the A.Q. Miller school invested in our workshop will be particularly beneficial for our high school attendees who will love to get more information about the program and, in return, will increase their interest in K-State.”
Spencer O’Daniel, Director of CMG and past Director of the Flint Hills Publications Workshop
is grateful for the journalism school’s investment in the workshop.
“When looking at other summer high school journalism workshops around the country,
most have become solo operations where the revenue seems to be nearly as important as the
actual learning that takes place,” said O’Daniel. “We are in a unique and fortunate situation to
have this kind of investment from our journalism and communications school where talented
faculty members set aside time in their summer to support CMG and high school journalists from
around Kansas. I’m grateful for their continued investment into the Flint Hills
Publications Workshop and believe we will see improved numbers in attendance over the next
few years.”
Dr. Heather Woods, Director of A.Q. Miller School of Media and Communication stated, “The Miller School is pleased to partner with Collegian Media Group on the Flint Hills Publications Workshop, which provides world-class experiences for high school journalists and their advisers right on K-State’s campus. We are excited to support the next generation of storytellers, elevating voices for the common good.”
